Hi Farm Fans,
Vicky and I have often joked how our daily life on the farm could easily be a reality show. Take for instance this week…We received an inquiry, through our Airbnb.com listing, not about booking our room for a night but rather our pool for a couple of hours. This was a first. They said they would be happy to pay the nightly rate, but would only use the pool and maybe a restroom. The interested female, who lived in the Philly area, said they were religious and preferred private pools to public. I was leery, Vicky would be working the night in question and I needed to be a bit more clear on what this was all about. I responded with my own questions:
Would there be alcohol?
How many people?
Would this be men, women and children?
Would there be a religious ceremony held?
10 total people
All girls 20-30 years of age
I quickly wrote back to say, according to my register, “you’re already booked!!” Just a nano second before I hit send, I felt a pair of glaring eyeballs piercing 2 holes through the back of my skull. Damn it!
Tomatoes are finally beginning to ripen! You will see a few in the market this weekend. Also in the market this Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10-6:
Green Beans-beautiful first picking of french filet Haricot Verts
Yukon Gold Potatoes
Sweet Bell Peppers
Hungarian Hot Wax Peppers
Crooked Creek Farm Pork-Bacon, Various Sausages, Ham Steaks (smoked and fresh) Chops (bone in and boneless), Pork Loin, etc.
Herbs-basil, parsley, rosemary, sage, thyme and lemon thyme, oregano, tarragon, various mints.
And, of course, something I forgot
All of our produce with the exception of the sweet corn and peaches is grown organically.
Thank you to all who attended our second cooking demo! It was a lot of fun. Stand by for information on our August one coming soon.
