Checking out our online menu this week you will find that Labor Day has gone bye bye and fall is quickly approaching. For instance, take a look at the winter squash available. Honey Nut Butternuts, no not Cheerios, Butternuts! So small, cute and sweet. Delicatas, made famous right here in last week’s email. Spaghetti Squash, “Mom, this doesn’t taste like spaghetti, but it’s great with my favorite sauce on it!” Acorn Squash, looks like a giant green acorn on the outside and the bright orange Kabocha. Cut them in half, take out the seeds and rub a little butter, salt, pepper and the secret ingredient….maple syrup, then bake. Are you kidding me? So good!
Our pork supply has been refreshed by Crooked Creek Farm this week so you will see the pulled pork BBQ is back along with many other cuts and sausages. And, let’s talk about corn just for a moment. There’s nothing like, according to me, going to the freezer in the middle of January, taking out a bag of frozen corn that you prepared in September before the corn was gone for the season and warming it up with a little butter, salt and pepper. Close your eyes and take a taste. Actually, keep your eyes open until you have the corn on your fork. If you close your eyes before you have scooped up the corn, you may over shoot the corn and put a forkful of cabbage or another side dish that doesn’t taste like corn at all and will ruin the whole taking you back to summer feeling that you will get with corn. We cut it off the cob, put it in a big pan with a little salt and a little water and heat and stir until all the corn has changed color from white to slightly yellow and it’s ready to bag. You will thank me.
Ordering begins at 9a Tuesday morning through Wednesday evening at 10p. Remember you can opt for Saturday delivery or pick up your order at the farm Saturday or Sunday 10-2
Have a great week!
