Hi Farm Lovers,
Good news for you peach fans! Fresh peaches from Shaw Orchards will be available in our market Friday-Sun. 10-6. Also our Food Demo 2 is sold out for July 27. We are looking forward to a great evening. We are hoping to have another one in August and again in September. We will keep you posted on our guest chefs.
We have started harvesting our sweet onions. We always run into a challenge on how to dry and cure them. I mean who’s set up to cure thousands of onions? Many of you who have been coming here for years probably recall onions filling the small incline across from the market. That worked well until it rained for a couple of days one year and most onions rotted. I suggested hanging the onions in the barn like we do the garlic. Most hated that idea. Vicky suggested a double clothesline effect with onions twisted and hanging in the line. Um maybe. Then she said is there anything we can do with all our wood pallets? I looked at farmhand Harvey. He was a man with a 1000 mile stare. When he finally snapped out of it, he had thought up a rack system that seemed genius. We’ll see how it works. You can take a tour of the rack system for free if you would like.
