Farm Update

Hi Everyone,

I believe summer has arrived!  Isn’t this so typical of our Maryland Spring?  Didn’t we just go from 38 degrees to 88 in a matter of hours? Now that Summer is in the air, I have noticed that something has been missing in the air, and that’s the smell of a skunk.  Maybe it’s just me, but I was saying to Vicky a couple of nights ago, “When was the last time you smelled a skunk?” She said, “Should my answer include you, after you’ve been in the field all day?”  Ha Ha.  After her comedy routine, she agreed, it’s been a long time!  What’s happened to the skunks?  Remember when you were in the car with a friend and the smell began as a faint whiff and grew to an almost unbearable odor and, of course, you would always say,”Jeez Bob, Mexican food last night?”  Remember when you saw a skunk and ran in the opposite direction?  Remember when your dog hadn’t run in the opposite direction and you had to bathe him in tomato juice? Remember when the song “Dead Skunk in the Miiddle of the Road” by Loudon Wainwright lll was a top ten hit?  It wouldn’t be now, no one would get it!  It was a smell I always connected with summer.  Even though it would almost bring on the gag reflex, I sorta miss it.
So, I’m anxious to hear from you guys.  Skunks, victims of the climate crisis?  Victims of too many hit and runs?  My farm odor overrides the skunk odor?  Have you smelled a skunk lately?
